It seems like Justin Bieber is giving up on getting his 14-week-old pet monkey back.
The monkey, Mally, was seized by German customs officials in March and is now being held in a shelter in Germany. Bieber has until this Friday to complete the paperwork. However, it seems that Justin has given up the chance to reclaim his furry friend.
“Bieber’s lawyers have indicated they would like to leave the monkey,” stated Judith Brettmeister, spokeswoman for the German animal shelter where Mally is being kept temporarily. “From an animal rights perspective, it would have been better to do that before, as he is being kept well here but not with other members of his own species.”
Justin might have realized that leaving the monkey in the hands of the animal shelter would be best for Mally. Brettmeister stated that the 14-week-old capuchin monkey had been taken from its mother too early. In it’s short time at the animal shelter, the monkey has learned a lot and is now “jumping around, learning slowly to climb and to use its tail,” Brettmeister said.
Franz Boehmer, from the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, stated that time is running out for the 19-year-old singer to get his monkey back. If Justin Bieber does not reclaim custody of Mally, the monkey will be transferred to a zoo where it can be with other monkeys. The details about which zoo the monkey will be brought to will remain a mystery.”I’m afraid we can’t reveal details on where Mally will be taken, as we are worried about the hype surrounding the monkey,” said Boehmer. “We want to calmly integrate the animal into a group of its own species.”
So what do you think?
